The case for speaking

We’ve typed for a hundred years, now it’s time to talk.
Your best ideas never came at 45 wpm.

You don’t type into an LLM anymore. You talk to it. Typing is the bottleneck — not the thinking.

And this is what the sharpest minds are already doing “…lean back, switch to /voice and just ramble for like 10 minutes.” Andrej Karpathy on X · 21 July 2026

Meet the app

Beautiful on the
inside too.

Insights, streaks, snippets, custom transforms — everything lives in one quiet, native macOS app.

The main event

Your voice,
in every app.

Hold Left ⌥ and start talking — Slack, Notion, your terminal, an email draft, anywhere text goes. Release, and the transcript appears at your cursor, cleaned up by AI: no filler, correct casing, real punctuation.

You speak around 150 words a minute and type around 45. Sayful gives the difference back — tap once for hands-free mode, choose Fast for instant transcription or Quality when accuracy matters most.

Try it — right here

Watch: typing with the wrong layout on…

And one more thing

Wrong layout?
One space fixes it.

Typed a whole message before noticing the keyboard was in the wrong language — руддщ instead of hello? Sayful fixes the word the moment you hit space, switches your input source, and moves on. No selecting, no retyping.

No other dictation app does this. It reads your real keyboard layouts from macOS, so it works across 55 languages rather than a hard-coded pair. Select older text and double-tap to flip that too.

Text trapped in pixels

Pull text off
your screen.

Press ++S and drag a box around anything — a video still, an error dialog, a PDF you can't select. Sayful reads the text with OCR and drops it straight on your clipboard.

Recognition runs in the cloud, and Sayful only ever looks at the exact region you box — nothing else on your screen is captured.

More than dictation

Six superpowers,
one menu-bar icon.

How it works

Three moves.
That's the whole app.

  1. 01

    Hold the hotkey

Left Option starts listening from the menu bar. No window, no focus stealing.

  2. 02

    Just speak

Say it however it comes out. Sayful captures speech and hands it to AI to tidy.

  3. 03

    Text appears

Polished text drops in at your cursor, in whatever app you're already in.

Shift

Fix selected text.

ShiftShift

Flip selected text between layouts.

Shift+Space

Translate into your current layout.

Shift++S

Copy text from a screen region.

Left ⌥

Start & toggle hands-free dictation.

++X

Read the selection aloud.

Private by design

Your words
stay yours.

Layout correction is rule-based and runs entirely on your Mac — no account, and your text never leaves the machine. The app downloads a word list once per keyboard language, and nothing else. The AI features run in Sayful’s cloud and only ever see the exact text or screen region you act on.

  • Your dictation history is encrypted on disk with AES‑GCM; the key lives in your macOS Keychain, not in the file.
  • No analytics on what you type or dictate — ever.
  • Automatic layout flipping stays silent in terminals, password managers and other risky apps.

The maths

What you get back.

9.8

hours a week you stop spending on the keyboard

451

hours a year — speaking runs at about 150 wpm, typing at 45

times you don’t retype a sentence because the layout was wrong — and don’t get annoyed about it

The assumption behind these numbers: you dictate about 70% of what you type — messages, email, docs, notes, AI prompts — and keep typing the rest, because nobody dictates code or spreadsheets. That works out to roughly half the time for the same working day.

Questions

Fair questions,
straight answers.

Does it work in every app?
Yes — Sayful types at your cursor through macOS accessibility, so Slack, Notion, terminals, browsers and email all behave the same. If you can place a cursor there, Sayful can type there.
What happens to my voice recordings?
Audio is deleted a few minutes after transcription; a recording that failed to send is kept until it succeeds, and no longer than 30 days. Local dictation history is encrypted (AES-256) with the key in your macOS Keychain, auto-deleted after 30 days, and nothing you type or dictate is used for training.
What does the layout flip do, exactly?
When you type a word with the wrong keyboard language active — руддщ instead of hello — Sayful notices at the space, rewrites the word and switches your input source. It runs locally with no quota.
Is 3,000 words a week actually enough?
That's roughly 12 pages of dictated text every week. Layout flip doesn't count against it at all. If you dictate long documents daily, Pro removes the ceiling.
Which languages are supported?
Dictation detects what you speak on its own, across 100 languages. Layout flip reads the keyboard layouts you actually have installed rather than a fixed pair, covering 55 languages — English, Ukrainian and Russian additionally get hand-tuned rules.
Which Macs does it run on?
Apple Silicon, macOS 13 or later. Signed and notarized by Apple. There is no Intel build yet.
